Today I was frustrated by some *very* slow page loads for my application. It seemed like every time the browser would ask for a resource in ‘javax.faces.resource’ the server would take forever to serve it up. The profiler indicated PrettyFaces configuration as the culprit!

The problem: I didn’t have WEB-INF/pretty-config.xml in my web application.

The solution: I added WEB-INF/pretty-config.xml, and everything was much better.

My question is, when there is no WEB-INF/pretty-config.xml available should that be an error? Maybe a warning? (“hey dummy… fix your app config”)

Does this mean that the application was terribly slow on AS7 without a pretty-config.xml and got faster after you added an empty pretty-config.xml without any rules or mappings?

That’s VERY strange and sounds like a bug.

But no, we cannot create any error or warning because pretty-config.xml is not mandatory. You can also configure PrettyFaces using annotations which doesn’t require a pretty-config.xml file at all.
